Anne's Garden wherein things come and grow

My garden lies high above the San Andreas Fault and the fog that fills its valley.

It is a process, not a destination.

Mountain retreat

May 2007 - A new year erupts

Already we have had artichokes and lettuce from the garden. The strawberries are ripening and the rapberries have bloomed.

I am ready to sit and watch it all happen. Stay tuned.

Raspberries! Clarkia

June 2007

Raspberries! More than we could possibly eat. Friends and neighbors helped, and so did a pair of resident thrashers.

Kale, snow peas and flowers abound. And the apricots should be ripe by the Fourth.

Much wildlife frequents the pond. We see many of birds, but the other critters are more elusive.

And inside the fence the apricot tree is astonishing this year.

A doe and two fawns drink from the pond

Branches each with dozens of apricots bend with the weight of the fruit.

While we were eating steaks from the barbie on the porch, a local doe and her two fawns came for a drink. We don't usually see them up this close, but we do know when they have been here because they dine on the flowers around the pond. Not the whole plant; only the flowers.

Every spring the apricot tree is covered with blossoms, and every spring we have a huge storm that blows off all the blossoms. But not this year!
